SLS Community has been awarded a $3 million federal grant through Congressman Steve Womack’s Community Project Funding initiative. This funding is designated for infrastructure development supporting SLS Community’s mission to provide neurodiverse and developmentally disabled adults with vocational, residential, and clinical resources
The grant will contribute to the development of the South Cato Springs project, a 230-acre mixed-use, mixed-income neighborhood designed with inclusivity and accessibility in mind. The project aims to integrate nature-based living with facilities tailored to the needs of neurodiverse individuals, including specialized housing, vocational training centers, and recreational spaces .
Mayor Lioneld Jordan of Fayetteville praised the initiative, stating that the SLS Community project is transformative and will have significant economic and social impacts on the city and the broader Northwest Arkansas region .
In addition to the federal grant, the City of Fayetteville has committed a matching $3.48 million to support the initial phases of the project, focusing on essential infrastructure such as sewer and road development .
The South Cato Springs development represents a collaborative effort to create an inclusive environment that supports the lifelong success of neurodiverse adults, setting a precedent for similar communities nationwide.
